Germanium dioxide, in the molecular formula GeO2, is the Germanium oxide, in an electronic form similar to carbon dioxide. It is white powder or colorless crystal. There are two kinds of hexagonal system (stable at low temperature) and tetragonal system insoluble in water. The conversion temperature is 1033ºC. Mainly used in the production of metal germanium, also used for spectral analysis and semiconductor materials.

Application

1. Used for germanium, also used in the electronics industry. Used as semiconductor material. It is prepared by heating oxidation of germanium.
2. Used as raw material for the preparation of metallic germanium and other germanium compounds, as catalyst for the preparation of polyethylene terephthalate resin, as well as as spectroscopic analysis and semiconductor materials. It can produce optical glass phosphors and be used as catalyst for petroleum conversion, dehydrogenation and polyester fiber production.
